I’m about to do some touch-up paint before the Seattle winter sets in. We haven’t had any rain since May. The clapboards in some places are bowing a little and split. I just want to get through the winter before I can give the house a proper paint job. My questions are as follows:
1) What’s the best type of sandable/paintable wood sealant that I can mend some of the more serious splits and cracks? Any brandnames that stand out?
2) For some of the bowing clapboards they’re not presenting any foreseeable problem (possibly nothing that can’t wait) but I’m curious how someone else would go about dealing with them? Am I being foolish thinking that I’m opening myself up to moisture and woodrot?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
