It’s time to get my truck rollin’, but I can’t afford the $2500. I need to find a (much) cheaper long block I can drop in.
This (BT) being the greatest resource on earth, I thought I’ld ask.

Look on eBay. A friend of mine bought an engine for his CRX there.

My experience with Japanese motors is this:
don't repair them, replace them. They are built to very small tolerances, with very small allowances for assy variation / dirt/ etc. Compared to typical western engines (US, Sweedish or German), which often have more forgiving design philosophies built in to them (and weigh more, and cost more to make except at huge manufacturing volues).
West: build it good enough, expect some to need repair later, hope for the best (some sill fail in the field, "that's normal").
East: build it with zero margin, make everyone perfect. Don't ever take it apart.
There are sites on the internet of companies that import whole engine assys from Japan. I recommend that you look for one of those, get a low mileage one and drop the whole thing in (just add your intake/exhaust, alt and so on). Also, most local scrapyards can 'order' you one of them from such a site and give you a 30day warranty or something like that.
hope this helps,
Norm
I have an SR22 for about $1500, and it includes the truck. ;-)

Uggh! I can barely drive past the Cascades to go hiking. Mine is an 89 with 200K miles (still new ;-) ), but you should be able to locate something similar in your neck. I would have to check but I think rebuilt 22R's go for around $1000-1200 with exchange.
Sorry, I can't help you, unless you can cram a 351 Windsor in there<G>
Just wanted to say, watch out if you're looking an attractively low-mileaged motor that comes from a car driven in Japan. I personally got one for a Toyota 4 Runner. Less than 50K, and 500 bucks. Deal, right? Didn't last 10,000mi.
Apparently, the corrosive atmosphere in Japan eats car bodies like snacks. The cars rot, and the engines get shipped here. Big biz. Seems the Japanese car owners know this, and drive the living bejeezus out of their vehicles...I'd check out rebuilt.
Don't worry, we can fix that later!
I get them all day long for about $150. I have three toyotas buying another tomorrow. Try http://www.car-parts.com for junkyards
This a take off of the original Earl Schrieves flood cars????
you should have a bunch down yur way.....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Thanks everybody.
Brown Bagg, awesome link, found 3 x more, much faster than the search service I used. Gotta bookmark that link.
Thanks again all.

An engine a day? That's what I'm talking about<G>
Good site, but are you buying engines that were run in Japan for 150 beans? Don't worry, we can fix that later!
there is one region of Japan (Asamayama) with active volcanos and very corrosive atmosphere, but the rest of the place is a lot like California, little road salt, mild winters (but very hot, humid summers, more like Georgia, I guess).
Most Japanese only own a car for 2 or 3 years. Their inspections and taxes are such that a car over 5 years old has almost no worth and can be expensive to dispose of. Hence the huge used-car market in the far east for used Japanese cars.

Thanks to BB, I found a motor with only 115k miles right here in town. 90 day warantee. Its now mine.
Thanks again to all here in the Greatest Resource On Earth who responded.
