Anyone have/use the track rac system on thier truck?
I see alot on the road now.
My unit is a 2003 f-150 extra cab short bed.
Had a custom welded rack on my prev. small toyota, but I like the idea of sliding the thing off on weekends or long trips with the family.
Worth the price ? +- $ 900. clams

I have one. Although I don't work fulltime. It is great for hauling lumber and anything that is longer than my 8'ft bed. I hardly ever take it off, but do find a need to slide it back and forth a lot. It has been on the truck for about 7 years and still looks good.
If you want a rack for light duty that will get out of your way quickly, buy the track rack.
If you want a real rack to haul some real loads buy a Vanguard.
If you want a rack that is always in the way and can't handle any real work, buy a system one.

No worth it at all. The SystemOne racks are way better and have more to offer. There also cheaper.
You can remove them also. Not as easy as the Track Rack but these racks are worth every penny. I've had mine for 6 years now. The Work Winch to strap down anything is untouchable. Check out the site.

Been looking to pick one up since I bought the new truck two years back.
Wasn't "compatable" with the Roll-n- Lock cover I installed at the time.
From all I've seen, they're great for long lengths of lumber and such......don't know I'd trust 'em for hauling large amounts of scaffolding.
Democrats.
The other white meat.
We have Track-Racks on the company pickup--shortbed Chevy Extended cab with the Track Rack cab extensions. Last week we had it loaded up with four 24' Alumapoles and four 24' aluminum planks and drove it 80 miles or so.
They're pretty rugged racks except for the cabover thing--it is ok for stabilizing loads side to side, but you really can't put much of any weight on it.
On my pickup (F-150 X-cab) I've got Track Rack van racks that mount on the cap with bolt-on "gutter" extrusions. I've had that loaded up with probably 500lbs of poplar boards, or two pics and two alumapoles--tough on the cap but no problem for the racks.
I used to have steel Vanguard-style racks. I liked that the cab extension was rock solid but I didn't like how it rusted.
Never used a System One but everyone who has them seems to rave about them.
I have a TracRac on my '96 Nissan. Aerodynamically, not so pretty good. Supposed to be able to take 1000 lbs, evenly dispersed. I haven't taken it off, and I don't think the folks who owned it before me ever took it off the truck either.
The over-the-cab part is pretty scary. I've hauled some rebar with the rack, but something as floppy as 20' rebar gets to flopping darn near the hood, even when I am driving REAL nice and easy.
Personally, I think if someone uses their racks hard with frequency a steel rack, like Rackit, is probably a better choice. If you get material deliveries mostly, and it's just an occasional run to the lumberyard for a few pieces, TracRac is probably sufficient.
