Hi
I am renovating a house with 10’+ ceilings and would like to install tall doors with transom winds in the interior. My question is does one order the door and window as a set complete with jam or do you order them separately and install them individually. If installing individually what is the best way to approach it to get a nicely trimmed finished product. Thankyou for your replies.

Around here those are typically found in upscale office buildings or hospitals. All I've seen come as a single unit so th etrim is uniform.
Transom windows
Thanks for your reply. I live in Southern Ontario Canada and the house was built in 1870. Back in the day it was not uncommon for there to be taller doors with transom windows. I'd like to replicate that to an extent with a modern twist. I've checked out ebay and a couple of online door companies but can't get a handle on whether they are complete units or not. With your info I'll investigate furhter and see what I come up with.
You can do as you wish-buy them prehung with transom lite-operable if you find the right company.
or
buy the doors and sash and make your own.
or
buy just a prehung door and jamb, once that's set-replicate the jam and sash (or glass and stop) to complement what's below.
or
buy a door, assemble a jamb accommodating just it or it and a sash/glass and prep that jamb yourself ( or two separate jambs).
The goal is to make it look like it was and is -one .............. perfect in all respects-a good carpenter certainly can do that. And if you are undertaking this project as diy, you can do it too.
If staining, it might be harder to match up color if you get one part from a supplier and fab the other yourself.
And it probably should be mentioned to allow enough room for a header (if necessary) in the wall (or within the ceiling) when figuring these sizes out.
best of luck.
The logistics of getting a prehung door with transom into place makes it a better idea to make them as two pieces. I'd want to make them myself so the trim turns out how I wanted it - there's nothing especially hard about building any of it.
