About two years ago I built a deck for a customer. He specified treated decking. This was about the time that we made the switch in this area from cca to acq. The first problem I had was that screws failed. I used #8 x 2 1/2″ GRK reisser screws with the climatek coating. I was told by my supplier that these screws would work with acq. The screws corroded in a matter of weeks. So we rescrewed the deckin and thought that was that. WRONG!! I just got a call from the guy and he said the decking was cupping splitting and screws where breaking again. Any suggestions?

take the learning curve to use SS screws...pilot holes is the one that will send ya into a wall if ya ignore it.

SS is the way I go now as far as the screws. What do I do about the cupping and splitting? When the screw problem came up we replaced alot of the decking and I dont want to replace it all again. Of cource the guy thinks I should replace it at my expense. Even though it was his call to use the acq.
Often you can flip the boards face from face if it is that bad..but tell the HO oe whoever.."LOOK it is WOOD, "it will cup..ya might have a CFH ( customer from hell)...in that case R&R...and learn. Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Thought about that. I was also wondering about a floor sander. I haven't seen how bad the cupping is. But, if it isn't too bad I thought sanding might work. It may sound crazy, but I don't want to put a ton of time into it that I may not get paid for. By the way I refuse to install treated decking after this experience. I haven't had these problems with cedar and the composites are great.
dont even go there..sander wise.
Install Ipe or a alternative composite.
Just how bad is this?
I feel strongly you have a CFH. Nothing will satisfy that. Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

You're right about the CFH. I don't know how bad it is. I will find out next week when I go look. I was hoping to have some ideas when the CFH asked what could be done to fix it. I may just have to tell him he got what he paid for with the decking. Maybe it's me but I think the acq is more unstable than the cca. I can't figure out why it would be, but this stuff went crazy on us pretty quick. Thanks for the input.
