Man am I getting tired of trying to run interference for both the lumber yard and the building department………….
The Left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing….
The new treated wood requires heavy duty galvanized brackets and hangers
Simpson will have those in 4-6 weeks but they don’t have the screws for the brackets. Can we use stainless screws? No the two metals will react to each other.
Can we use 1/4″ galvanized bolts supplied by Hillman? “Don’t know if the galvanization is heavy enough”.
Ok, instead of using CBSQ stand off brackets for 22- 6x6x8′ posts can I buy 14′ posts and bury them 3′ in the ground? Yes, we will revise the permit…….
Tell me, when do we require a footing with brackets, and when can we just stick the post in the ground? I’m using treated wood here. What is the formula? Sq. ft. weight?
Sorry I had to rant , but these guys have known for a year that this new copper treated wood was coming and it seems like they’re just now starting to put two and two together.
Now I need to know if the copper in treated wood will stain the stamped concrete work now that the posts are in the ground.
Wouldn’t that be just ducky if the post started bleeding into a stamped cobblestone?
Well I can at least order the posts.
Would you guys recommend wrapping the posts with Nervestral or Tyvec before burying them with concrete?
Help me out here, I’m having a bad day…………

Hop in your boat and shoot up here to Friday Harbor. The local yard stocked up big time on CCA and is still selling plenty of it. Seriously, I don't have any answers and I think only time will tell. I'm trying not to be a guinea pig myself.
I'm a bit concerned .. have at least 2 decks installed before I even knew about the ACQ / zinc hardware issue. I'm wondering who'll be responsible when the fasteners start to go ?
I've been using nothing but stainless for the last 2 I've built.

Like I said the lumber yards have known about this for over a year, although I would hardly hold them responsible for corrosion of fasteners unless they new about your installation beforehand, and then they should only be liable for the cost of the fasteners.
You see, we have an obligation as builders to keep abreast of the changing products and codes.
I'm just a little "Piffed" that the yards and suppliers can't coordinate their efforts by fazing out the old and bringing in the new a little more professionally.
Now if we want to build anything out of the new treated lumber we have to wait for
Copper flashing, galvanized Simpson screws, heavy duty galvanized nails, and bolts.
The cart before the horse syndrome.
Maybe I should just take this year off till they get it all straightened out.
Maybe I should sub myself out to replace all the old fasteners and brackets everyone else is using because there is nothing else to use.
A new market of opportunity!

Wait a sec Pro Dek, haven't I heard that copper flashing will deteriorate too ? I think so ..
I don't think so , copper to copper, but then I didn't take metallurgy in school either. I'm starting to feel like I should be chemist...........That will be my next merit badge."Rather be a hammer than a nail"

Not copper, aluminum. Apparently will melt like butter, exchanging electrons with the copper in ACQ.

I'll be right up for an Ikenberry Heffeviesen "Banana Beer"but not for any old wood."Rather be a hammer than a nail"
