I have a customer who wants to have an arched arbor. I have drawn up a plan that has an arch 12′ wide with 12″ of rise (72′-6″ radius). The only problem is they want it all done with trex. I know that trex is flimsy and not supposed to span more than a joist, but do you think the arch would fight this? I plan to laminate an arch 3″ wide and 9″ tall. Am I asking for trouble or will it be okay? Thanks for the help.

jon.. since you're laminating it.. and it's 3" use an interior core of two layers of 3/8" marine plywood with an exterior of trex (5/4 +3/8 +3/8 +5/4 )..
the two layers of 3/8 will allow you to build a 12' lapped arch for strength.. and the exterior of trex will give you the weathering abilities..
.... i had good results laying up trex with west systems...
*Thanks for the reply Mike. Have you ever tried PVC cement? I've heard that it works well but never used it before.Jon
*no.... just the epoxy.... it bonded well with the wood fibers in the trex....
