Will TREX or similar composite decking support the weight of a filled and occupied hot tub (approx. 4100 lbs.) without compressing? I’m concerned that on a hot day in direct sun when the decking heats up the hot tub could settle into the softened material. I was planning to use 5/4 decking but maybe shold consider 2×6. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

I've got 5/4 trex under mine, 350 gal Hot Spring.....no problems ever. NE Ohio, so we get summer heat, and it's in direct sun, with no shade from 11 am on. Keith
Thanks for the help. Ours is a Hot Spring too (Prodigy/325 gal.) and we're in southeast Pa. so that's comparable season-wise. Thanks again.

Keith, how's the Trex for holding heat or not...in the sun is it too hot to walk on barefoot? comfortable?
The deck under the tub is saddle( 2nd darkest Trex color) and is not to hot to walk on in the heat of the summer. And more importantly it's really "grippy" even when wet, and this is the smooth trex, the main deck is Trex accents(woodgrain), and it's grippier yet.
Seems to me that it is not deformation from point pressure that is a concern, but sagging between joists and framing layout that should be the issue.

I would not worry about the trex so much, but build up the strucure under it. If the weight of the tub would compress the deck boards then we may have a problem. But the trex should handle it.
Last summer I installed 6 person hot tub on trex. Actually it is on concrete, but we strapped the bottom of the tub with 2 inch wide strips of trex. It has been fine.
Have a good day.
