I am planning to erect a 6 foot high privacy fence. I was considering substituting Trex boards for the normally used cedar boards. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions?

Trex is very heavy and pliable. If you use it you will have to some way support the weight without creating sag.
I have never used it vertically. You will have to design it so it is supported horizontally every 2' and underneath every 1'.
Good Luck...............

Larry, I've thought about using some kind of Hardie cement product to make a privacy fence.
The redwood sold for fences is so green and wet it's like working with planks made of carrots. And the hot S. Cal. sun dries it out so fast it looks like a cinder in a few years. I figured the cement boards would hold up. Of course there is weight and cost to consider but I still wonder if it would work.
I asked once before if anyone here had ever used Hardie products for a fence but got no replies.
I have used the 4x8' sheets of stucco finished concrete board for a privacy fence around a pool pump i also used the plastic lumber for a top rail cover and bumped the concrete sheets to bottom of it.if you use concrete products make sure you prime and paint because if they get wet repeatedly they'll degrade.

Andy, thanks for the reply. I still have a year or so on my house before I tackle the fence but I ponder it from time to time.
