I’m building my first house and am currently hanging the vinyl siding. I’m to the garage and need to add 2X6 boards to trim out the garage overhead door opening. I’ve been looking at the neighbors houses and noticed that they seemed to have wrapped the 2X6 in sheet metal the same color as the trim. I’m wondering how that is wrapped around the 2X6 given that sheet metal is not easy to bend without dents?

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

it's impossible unless you do it on a sheet metal break.. then it's easy..
you might want to look into some composite trim... like Koma

You need a tool called a break. If you use regular 2x for the trim , make sure you seal the end grain even if you wrap it .you can also opt for pvc and paint it or leave it white.
Todd, you need a sheet metal brake. you can borrow mine....or I'll sell it to you.

Why not check your area to see if there's a Sheet Metal shop , then you could get it broke up properly. and probably very reasonably too.

Because they'd probably laugh at you!
rent a brake. Take the materials and measurements with you if this is the only part you have to wrap. Do it in the parking lot and save on the gas.
It'll take about 15 minutes.

I gotta go with mike smith on this --breaking steel can look good and with a break it is easy. BUT if you are like me and have kids just know that is is going to get dented and its permanant . I put in wrap over my existing jamb when i resided a couple of years ago and if given the chance I would change out to a composite which is repairable--less lidely to dent and still has the low maintance. How upscale is your house? maybe some nice wood or composite trim would look better than aluminum.
I'm doing a job now where I'm removing the aluminum and installing some fancier trim around the doors, but this is in a fairly upscale community.
the aluminum was pretty beat up, and the owners wanted to dress up the garage doors with some nice trim details.
Its pretty typical to see the alum. trim getting banged up over time. And you do need a brake to make it up.
I tried the coil stock wrap method a couple of times but, as has been mentioned, it's too prone to damage. Now I use trex 5/4 X 6 deck boards and paint it. it's more durable than wood and lasts longer
