What do you all think about trimming up to a half inch out of this 2×4 on the bottom ? Going to need a new door and some of the choices have a RO slightly larger than what’s there currently
Thanks

The most common way to make your own parging mix is to use either Type S mortar for block or Type N for brick and add a concrete bonding additive.

What's above the door?
No problem trimming a 1/2 inch off of an non-load bearing 2x4 header. Might be an issue if this is a structural wall...
That’s a 2x8 above the 2x4 I’m assuming standard double 2x8 with plywood in the middle. It is load bearing.
What does the corner look like? How is the King Stud set ?
You might consider the actual dimensions of the door assembly. (there might be room)
I would think that header is strong enough without the 2x4. if it has to go, I would just cut the whole thing out.
That being said, you can always regret assuming anything. Can you pull a bit more plaster and feel the header thickness? (with a bent wire to measure thickness)
This was pulled in the middle. I suppose I could rip more off the corner and try and figure out how thick it is. I also guess the actual dimensions of the new door will just fit right in. I will do a little more digging. Thanks.
