trimming out curve floor laminate
Hello All,
I’m laying out a floating laminate floor in a sunken living room, and I have problem figuring out how to trim out a concave curve where the living room steps up to a landing. In particular I’m not sure of a good way to deal with the upper level where I plan to have laminate meet the curved edge of the step. I want to hide the edge of the laminate, but also avoid a trip hazard. I’m going to try to attach a photo of the problem and hope that wiser minds than mine might have an elegant solution.
gratefully yours
Geoff

I think I would figure on making up a curved stair nosing that incorporates a thin (as you can w/o it falling off) lip that the upper lam. can tuck under.
best of luck.

I agree on making a curved nosing to match what you have. I have never done that but I think I would ...
make a template out of 1/4" sheet stock that is 3 1/2" wide and sits in 2" fron the front of the finished riser.
Use it to trace on glued up peices of 5/4 x 8" wood (that match what you are putting in) that form a basic arch of your step. I think I would make it out of 8" wide to start to allow room for an imperfect shaped arch.
Jigsaw within 3/16 th of the trace. Attach the template and route with a pattern bit that follows the template you made.
Route the bullnose with 1/2" round over. Rabbet to get it to sit above the flooring 1/2" and put a 1/4" round over to ease the edge. If not you will spend a lot of time scribing the floor to the nosing.
