Trouble Posting Photos

Hudson Valley Carpenter | Posted in Photo Gallery on December 1, 2008 07:51am

I’ve been experiencing problems, trying to load and attach photos to this board over the last couple of days.  I get all the correct indications but the photos files don’t appear with my post.

Never had this problem before on BT.

Whazzup wid dhat?

Let me try, haven't posted a pic in a while.

    edit to add:

Seemed to work for me. Might be something on your end.

My firewall/antivirus gave me that problem once... out of nowhere.  Think I had to allow an exception or something.  It was a while ago

I try to keep my hand out of the cookie jar.

I've heard of losing your cookies.  How does one dump them.

      1. calvin | Dec 01, 2008 08:08pm | #5

I go to the same area as emptying the cache.  Settings>internet options> temp internet files (I think).  There I can clear browsing history, cache, cookies.

Reupping here at BT will require you to give your password.A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch.

Thanks Calvin.  I'll give those suggestions a try.

I don't do much computer housekeeping so I'm not real familiar with that kind of thing.

Open IE, click on tools/internet options/general tab (should show by default) and then clear cookies.  Be advised that when you do this, you will likely be asked for your username and password at the various sites where you're registered....cause your self-identifying cookie will be gone.

Also, while you're in there.......dump your temporary internet files ...including the offline ones.  This should be done regularly...like once a week or more....depending upon where you've visted and what they've loaded to your temp internet files.  Sometimes I dump more than once a day.  It all depends.

Are you sure that you are waiting long enough for the files to upload ?Other than that, I don't think it's going to be a cookie or cache problem. I think Pete has it right, some security setting you have, doesn't allow it.Happened to me once. Looked like the file uploaded, and everything. For me, it was both a firewall setting and a browser setting. Can't remember what, though. Sorry.

Are you sure that you are waiting long enough for the files to upload ?

Definitely.  I've clicked on "upload" and waited until everything was "done" before touching the mouse or keyboard again.  A couple of minutes, I guess.

The only difference I'm seeing is that I get a blank pop-up window when the upload has been completed, instead of returning to the previous window where I would usually click on "done".

Just tried loading a (edit) photo to this post and got no where.

No big deal.  I don't post photos very often anyway.

Sounds like some setting to do with either javascript, or pop up windows has been changed in your browser.

            Right, just some java jive.

          6. Piffin | Dec 02, 2008 01:56am | #13

If it has something to do with Java, that could explain it. I had problems about 2 months back when Java auto updated, so this time, I refused to update, and a couple sites that use java have been pinging me with popups to update now or else.

    Me too.
but this isn't the first time. it is a sort of sporadic thing. I think that with my dial-up, the low bandwidth times out before things are all OK, so I have to browse it up again.

Makes sense as I'm on dial-up too.  It does seem to be taking way too long for such a small file to upload.

      1. theslateman | Dec 02, 2008 02:59am | #16

        Hudson,

I've got an " air card " and the loading is slow for me too. The opening and embedding goes normally , but the upload is slow.

Maybe TPTB want us to use their new blog gallery instead.

        1. calvin | Dec 02, 2008 03:05am | #18

I think, but cannot say for sure ........that since seeing that mzinga logo this whole operation runs slower.

You can't get an answer to a simple question when posted by email or in a post with a FHBWEB heading for instance.

Load time for changing from thread to thread also seems to have bogged down.

Well, that might work for the common man.

But don't they know this BT is in the blood?

Maybe so but I was replying to a question and wanted to offer one photo as an example.

  5. DanH | Dec 02, 2008 02:08am | #15

About three times in the last 10 days or so I've clicked "Upload" and it came back with an error message. Clicking "Upload" again did the load OK, but the first time this happened to me I missed the message and so didn't get the file uploaded.

Be sure that you get "Uploaded successfully" or whatever after uploading each file. If not, reattempt the upload.

I tried to upload a small photo file, about six-eight times, before asking for help.  Maybe we should wait until the gremlins are distracted or asleep.
