Hey all,
Well McLain gold boiler. Tried to make it thru the heating season without a final delivery of oil, cheapo.
Am on my second five gallon can of kerosene, first one ran out. Bled the air, hit the red reset. Fired and stopped. Hit it again, bled more (seemed to be no more air) and stopped again after a few seconds.
Now reset is blinking green, not red–boiler label indicates “LOCKOUT.” Can’t find info. Happy with my HVAC guy and am more than willing to call but if there’s an easy fix that would be great. Filter was just changed and flow is not be an issue, don’t think that’s the prob anyway.
Any advise greatly appreciated. 62 degrees and falling…

Try shutting off power to the boiler momentarily. I believe it is a safety so you don't get a build up of oil in the firing chamber.

yeah, I tried that. Nada.Todd
If you have a "fire eye" make sure that it is clean. It might have gotten dirty with the partial firings.

Bill, thanks for the input. From what I've been able to gather Well McLains might be a little fussy and it is a carbon build up issue. Question...what the heck is a "fire eye"???Todd
Any burner that auto fires has some kind of system to verify that you have flame it does not continue to allow unburned fuel to accumulate in the unit.I don't know if they still use this or not, but one method cadmium sulfide photocell that sensed the light from the flame. I thought that I remembered that they where called Fire Eyes and that one brand was Fyre Eye or something like that. But I was apparently wrong. It seems that they are called CAD sensor or flame sensors. By the way note that there other types of flame sensors. Don't know if any are used on oil.But maybe these will help.http://forum.doityourself.com/gas-oil-home-heating-furnaces/172852-oil-burner-tripping.htmlhttp://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/1D294http://www.inspect-ny.com/heat/FurnaceControls.htmhttp://www.fixya.com/support/t1603547-flame_sensor_old_oil_furnace.

Some controls holding down the reset for 60 seconds will clear the lockout.
Bingo! Thanks, all!!!Todd
