I am planning on building my retirement home soon. I recently saw some model homes with joists in the basement that were made out of 2×4’s and looked like trusses. The sales person didn’t know anything about them. I want to have an unobstructed basement with all the utilities hidden in the ceiling. I don’t want to have a main heating duct hanging below the ceiling. These the model homes had the main heating ducts running through these joists.
Has anyone had any experience with these joists? Are they good for long spans, around 20-25 feet? What are they called and who manufactures them? Are they better than I-Joists?
Thanks.
