I have an Asian style soaking tub, round in shape, but with a square flange. I think I screwed up. We built the deck structure, and cut a round hole in the top for the tub to sit into. We put tile backerboard on the deck, fitted to the round hole, and tiled to the edge of the circle. My intention is to place the tub onto the deck, with the square flange bearing on the tile surface, then glue it down with plenty of silicone under the flange, and finish the flange to the tile with a silicone bead. Some are saying I should have placed the tub down directly on the rough deck, and backerboarded and tiled to the flange, grouting the joint between tile and tub flange. How sayeth you?
