I am installing a new tub in remodel of bathroom. Was going to purchase a Kohler cast-iron but am now considering an acrylic tub.
Does anyone have input on a quality manufacturer. There seem to be lots of smaller companies (pearl, maxx, americh, etc.). It is my home so want something of better than average quality
I hadn’t planned on a whirlpool but may investigate if less that 1,500K (not Jacquizi)
thanks.

You might want to consider the Americast (american Standard) tub. If you do make sure to get the deeper model.

Try sitting in any model you are considering. Some are not particularly comfortable. Some manufacturer's offer tubs longer than standard which you may like better -- long enough so you can strech out your legs, but not so long you slip down under water.
I have an Americast sink in my kitchen and wouldn't get anything else made out of that stuff. They advertise it as being very durable but it scuffs very easily and I have cuts in the surface already after a year of use. We don't abuse it by any means so I have little faith in the material's ability to hold up. The Kohler cast iron tubs are real nice but obviously pricey and brutally heavy.
I have a Jacuzzi tub and have been satisfied with it. There was a leak at one of the jets which was addressed by an independent service technician. He told me that of the various types of acrylic tubs out there, Jacuzzi was one of the better ones, apparently due to the thickness of the acrylic sheets, etc. I tend to believe him because he's been doing fiberglas repairs for two decades and is not employed by Jacuzzi.
The suggestion to test drive a tub is probably a good idea if you can find a model in a showroom. A lot of this stuff is special order though so unless you find a large bath showroom, you may have to take a gamble. The tub I have is 5'-5" and is an ideal length- a lot better than the standard 5'. Happy bathing...
Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Sounds like I feared, I should try them out. I just haven't found a good showroom that stocks anything but the common variety (American Standard and Kohler).
Think I will go w/ the Kohler, gonna hate carrying (sliding, pushing, winching) that up the stairs though. Let me know if you have any good "tricks".
Glad to hear about the longer bath, that is one of my constraints, I want a 5'5" x32" and the Kohler Maestro is the one I am leaning to. 350#'s.
I carried a CI tub up two flights of stairs..took me all day.
Two guys at the bottom and me uptop. Still was near impossible so I had a brainy idea.
I laid two 2x8's on the stairs and tied a heavy rope around the crate the tub was in.
I put a dbl 2x4 outside the window above the stairs and tied a come along to it and the rope around the tub. Cranked it all the way up. Wish I'd have thought about doing that from the get go.
Was a breeze after that!!!!
Be well

its big and has stood up well so far.
at 6' long * 32" wide it takes up nearly 1/2 the bathroom but well worth it
aleks
I installed a real deep acrylic Kohler drop in tub. Rather than building a platform which would look dumb in an old house, I built a sort of curved side on it that I added wainscotting to and will cap the top with a wood trim cap......walls are hand made crackled glazed tile.
This tub was pretty inexpensive being that its a drop in but with imagination.....

Have you picked out the tub yet? I tried to get a MAAX from a whole saler and both times the unit was damaged when I got it. It caused us to delay our building for 3-4 months. The unit was ok until it was packed and shipped. Screws went through the crate and into the unit. MAAX also owns Pearl so beware.
Ended up getting a Jacuzzi, not quite finished but the trials were promising.
