I”m finishing a basement with a 3 fixture roughin. The homeowner witnessed the building of the house and claims there is a trap for the tub in the slab. I haven’t done new construction in fifteen years and can’t remember if it was standard to install a tub trap in the ground work. I’d rather not bust out the slab if I don’t have to.
Any one familiar with ground work roughins care to comment? The house is about 4 years old.

It does not matter what is "standard", but what was done in this case.
What is showing? is it a pipe out of the floor or the way mine was done was a small "pit" with the pipe coming out the side (and no trap) but same for a trap to be added and the pipe adjusted as needed?
But pushing a snake down should tell you. Either there is a 90 and it will easily continue or a 180 and it will be hard to get past that.
EDIT
Stupit me. Even better test. Pour some water down it. Then check with a flash light. If there is a trap there will be standing water. If not no water and you will probably smell sewer gas.

It is a 2" stub out of the slab. has standing water with a slight smell of sewer gas. My guess is it's a trap but the snake idea is a good one. Thanks.
Maybe it's a good idea to snake all the roughins while you are at it, or at least check for proper drainage going into it. No telling what kind of stuff - scrap materials, etc - might be in there, and if the sink don't drain, or the poop don't run down hill, guess who gets to fix it! Matt
the 2" tells me they were thinking shower.
still no way of guessing from here if they put a trap in ...
why not just call the plumber in to take an early look?
