Does anyone have any experience with tube lights that have reflective material within the tube? How do they fair up to regular sky lights in terms of leaking, amount of light etc.

Jeff, check the current thread on "sola (sic) tubes". There is absolutely no comparison to true skylights.
BTW, avoid plastic skylights, and go with Velux or another quality supplier so you may enjoy absence of leaks, clear views, a choce of glazing, and a wide range of accessories.
Good luck, Steve

to answer your question about tube lights it is important to know what you are looking for, direct lighting, a view or supplimenatary lighting. the skylight is the most natural choice if you want to have a view and the possibility of an opening light. the tube light will give great light if all you want is to light an interior hall or walk in closet etc. by design the tube light is the most least likely to leak but if all cautions are taken by a reputable roofer the regular skylight can be made to be leak proof.
