There are multiple products designed specifically for cedar siding. Tung oil isn’t the best in my opinion. Mainly b/c it will be really expensive. It also is a very light film, so you’ll have to put on so many coats you’ll be 10 yrs older by the time you are done. I would suggest you go to your local paint store for more direction for your specific needs (there’s so many options). There are also prefinished shingles available, but they can be pricey as well. For best results seal all sides of shingles and install a breather fabric or create an airspace behind to allow for shingles to dry out. If they’re installed tight to sheathing they take a very long time to dry.
