I just delivered and installed the lower 180 degree maple stairway today. There will be a walk under stairway sitting on top of this one. All the upper railing will be serpentine…nothing straight at all. The whole second floor balcony is serpentined…and internally supported with no post underneath.
It has all cantilevered microlams internally and is simply amazing to look at wondering what keeps it up there and so rigid.
Here are some loaded at the shop pictures….the stairway laying inside the house…then pictures of it set into place. You can look closely at the outside stringer and there are just two small places that the plasterers will easily fill in. I never put trim on the outside stringer….unless the owner wants to have something fancy there. I feel that a simple nice fit to the wall looks better than disquising a bad fit with trim.

Wow Stan. You make it look so easy! Luv seeing your pics. It must be difficult getting the stair through a standard doorway.
thanks & keep 'em coming.

Hook: Thanks....I wish I had a person taking pictures while we were installing that beast. The truth is...everybody within 100 yards was "drafted" for stair duty...ha.
It takes a bunch of guys....but only a few minutes of lifting and these things go right into place.
I have always said that my least favortite and most favorite day of stairbuilding are the day that I install one. I am of cours a little aprehensive before the stair is installed...but then am elated when it does. Its really a "rush" that I cant describe.

I was thinking along the same lines as Hook. What's the estimated weight of something like that? You must have some helpers that you can use for short periods of time... For example, I know you didn't get that thing on your trailer by yourself... unless you have some kind of hoist apparatus in your shop... Matt
That stairs weighs about 900 pounds. I took 8 guys to set it into place.
The pics are pretty dark, but the neat thing about digital is that there is a lot of detail in the sahdows that "gamma correction" (and a touch of contrast control) can bring out:

Holy heck! I just saw this for the very first time. I'm so blown away by how beautiful it is. And can appreciate the difficulty in making something that beautiful and smooth in form and function. Wow wow wow.
JMO; Thanks...I am going in circles at work and away..ha
