Adding a kitchen addtion which will line up with a prevoius bump-out and will have a shed roof.
Would like to tie the new roof to another existing shed roof over the garage. What is the best way to do this? Will have a post at the corner but not sure if I just run the top plate out from the addition to the post? For the addition I would have a vaulted ceiling as well.

It's not unusual for me to be dense but I don't understand the question at all. Could just be me but it may also be why you've received no input from others.
You frame a hip.
You sure will need to install a serious beam to pick up all that second floor and roof load. Best to go to a structural engineer.
oldhand,
Let me try again and see if I can be clearer. For the new addition the two new outer walls generally tie together with overlapping top plates. My question was given that I would like to also have an overhanging covered porch that will tie into the new addition and extend and wrap around to tie into the garage roof should the top plate for the longer outer wall on the addition extend all the way out to the corner post and then just tie the shorter addition wall with an overlapping top plate? Or is it better to just add use joist hangers to tie the top plate for the covered porch to the addition?
Graceconstruction - yep of course I would use a hip at the corner.
ridebirds - the joists run perpendicular to the roof trusses so that isn't a true load bearing wall. Have a structural engineer coming for the foundation and will of course check with him but my plan was to just add a LVL regardless.
Build the walls normally, The top plate itself is not enough to support the roof loads in the open corner. You will need beams extending out from the wall, sitting on the new corner post. The roof framing will sit on the beams.
The beams can tie into the walls with hangers. or be notched into the wall as headers are.
Size of beams with depend on spans / roof loads. They can be built up from normal construction lumber if you want to wrap them with some finish material, or solid wood or LVL if you want to leave them exposed.
catmandeux,
Perfect and thanx.
