Building a new all brick home and my builder says I should use type S mortar because type N will deteriorate on the bricks that are at of slightly below grate after the final grading. The sales guy at the brick company says stay with type N because Type S will be harder than the brick and could cause the brick to crack if there is any settling in the house. Anyone have any advice on this?
Thanks

Bricks mortar lime
Keep in mind that over the course of a year, a home is warmed by the sun and probably frozen in winter.A home is moving all the time dependent on the temperature.Expanding and contracting.
Therefore, mortar needs to accomodate this movement, adding the same amount of lime as cement makes this possible.
