TYPE OF “BED” FOR SETTING A TUB?
Hey all,
First of all, happy holidays, and big hopes of finishing ALL your projects on time in ’04. As for my latest, we put a whirlpool tub in the master bath, and I need to “set” it. Question…..what’s the best way? Actually, what is the best material to use? “deck mud” of sorts? Too dry? A thin set? Or something entirely different from a cement product?
Thanks to all, Beck

I like to use Structo-Lite plaster, which I think is a USG product but not actually sure. It's nice and fluffy while wet but sets up rock hard. May not be available at Lowe's but look for it at materials houses that sell to stucco and concrete crews.
beck,
check with the manufacturer of the tub, some of them do not want you to bed or set the tub in anything, saw that on a sticker on one.

set you tub normal with the weight being held by lumber along the top. hook all plumbing, get a bag of portland mix it like water and let it flow under the tub filling all void.
The best employee you can have but you wouldn't want him as a neighbor " He the shifty type"
I second David on the Structolite, but be sure you don't bury any of the whirlpool plumbing.
