I dont mean to be trying to turn the photo gallery into a flying gallery….but lately this is where my mind is. I was flying late today and saw a strobe light in the distance. I established radio contac and got permission to pass on the left and take a picture. It was an MX11 ultralight..

Stan,
Don't worry about turning the gallery into a flying gallery, I for one love to see your pics and I am sure I am not alone.
Look forward to more
Mark
As long as their still good pictures keep them coming.
Who Dares Wins.
That is a truly awsome photo. I am glad you posted it. Thanks for sharing

Not to worry about making this a flying forum. Would be a step up. I would be more upset if you failed to post more. Preferably many more.
If Prospero has a posted picture limit you can use my allotment. No loss as I so seldom post pictures.
Knock yourself out.
Nice shot.
Get back up there but this time cross low under his bow and get a pic with just the sky and clouds as a backdrop. Closeups always make a good pic. You want to see the whites of his eyes.
It sure is flat where you live.
Neat photo, though.

Alec,
That's why we call 'um "flatlanders" if there decent people, ...and FIB's and Bears fans if there not.

they may very well suck, I'll give you that,
I still love them, born in chicago moving back there.... can't support them just when they're winning, I already do/did that with the Bulls...
So when are you going to fly over Hefs mannsion?
You shoot him down??
Or did he land voluntarily??
Glad to know that the flatland security air force is on the job!!

Stan, I think you'd enjoy my neighbor. He has a small plane and I'm told he holds national records for short takeoff and landing... something like 16 or 17 feet?
He takes off and lands in the field across the road. I hear him taxi out, typical putt-putt sound of a light plane engine on the move, and then he winds it up to incredibly high RPMs to take off. There is virtually no time lapse between the rev and when I see him airborne--it appears that the wind from the prop (about 8' dia.) is sufficient to lift the plane with almost no ground speed. If there's a headwind he often does very impressive climbs straight off the ground.
When he lands he usually floats in right over our barn, almost gliding, no engine power, and makes a hard left turn over the power lines to land. His field is a couple hundred yards long and the power lines are at the edge along the road, maybe 30-40 feet high, so he has to clear those and still get down before hitting his own barn.
It's really remarkable what he can do with that plane--huge motor, huge prop, etc. I watch the guys taking off and landing in their Cessnas at the local airport as I'm driving by, and some of them can barely keep it straight over a huge piece of pavement.
Dave: That does interest me...I am curious what he is flying. Do you know if its a trike? A trike has a big double triangle shaped wing. They really jump off the ground quickly. A gyrocopter doesnt take off that quick...but they are hard to beat for landing. They usually roll less than ten feet.
Sorry, I've walked right up to the plane and never noticed the wing shape. It looks like a typical light plane to me, 'cept for the very large and fat tires for field landing. Maybe I can get a pic of it.
post away, yours are some of the best.
I've got to tell you Stan.............I think your pictures would be a little more interesting if you could go make some crop circles in those wheat fields the night before.......:-)
Thanks for posting all your shots
I personally like my feet on the ground but if I have to fly I like a window seat and get a very stiff neck looking at all the beautiful scenery we have to enjoy in these United States
Thanks for sharing.

Stan,
We've spoke on the phone before. Since you are the avid aviator in the experimental realm, would you know of anyone that may be interested in a Titan Tornado (http://www.titanaircraft.com). It's essentially an enclosed ultralight with Rotax power that seats 2.
I've got one that my dad bought a few years ago and I'd like to sell it.
Thanks,
John

John: Tornados are nice machines. Send me a picture and I will pass the word around.
Dumb question - how do you establish radio contact? Just sort of a random shout over the radio (i.e. "Who's up here on this fine, fine Illinois day?") or is there some sort of procedure?
Jes' wonderin'...

Blah, yada, whatever, Hi how are you today
