I just installed under cabinet lighting in the kitchen. With an interest in asthetics and convienience, I thought about how to install a switch for the light.
The solution I came up with uses a passive infrared motion detector as the switch for the lighting. The detector is mounted horizontally, aimed down. The switch cannot be seen, solving the asthetic concern, and turns on automatically….very convienient.
The switch uses a detector with a field of vision of 110 degrees and a timer that turns off after five minutes without motion.
In operation, the light turns on when the user approaches the cabinet and will remain on while working in that area. The light turns off in five minutes.

yes, occupancy sensors are used in many ways for lighting control and there are so many different PIR units for different situations that you could fit just about any situation. The security alarm PIR's might not have enough current capacity in the internal relay contacts for large lighting loads but an auxillary relay solves that. This might keep granpa from following everybody around turning off the lights!

Hey John, could you pass on a couple product names and numbers for us. Sounds like a great system.
thanks, David

Would love to know who's products you used.
