Underlayment for LVT on concrete – so many conflicting opinions out there!
Hey Guys and Gals,
I’m putting down some Luxury Vinyl Tile in basement bathroom (on concrete). Client would like added insulation on feet (radiant heating is too expensive).
Hesitating to install underlayment made for LVT due to so many varying opinions out there on underlayment flex and tile disconnecting as a result.
Anyone have any opinions or thoughts to share?
Happy New Year
Jeff

I would avoid anything organic. Water that makes its way under the LVT will not dry, and organic materials would just be mold food.
Thanks Andy. I’ve noticed some underlays made for LVT are high compressive strength & have dimples which promote drying of any water which may get under. May try it , if I can find it. Supplies are so variable these days! Cheers
Something like this?

That looks like a great product. I've never seen or used it. Have you installed that before Mr Greg_E ?
I haven't used that specific product, but have used similar air gap products without the radiant barrier with good results. Over cold concrete I think the radiant barrier would be a good addition.
