We may have the opportunity to build a very unique multi-function building. There is a design element which is causing some headaches on our end, maybe you guys can help. We need a source for cedar shingles which are machine cut. They need to be a uniform 8″ wide, 24″ long, and tapered from 3/4″ to nothing. Cedar shakes are to random in width and a synthetic product won’t match our specs. Any ideas… we can be reached directly at 620-663-6200 or [email protected].
Thanks in advance,
JVB

I've used shingles from Teal Products and have been very happy with the uniformity of their product.

I suggest contacting them (or some other shingle manufacturer) and asking them if they can make you a custom product.
Hello, this sounds lioke a unique job.
If I had such a requirement, I would contact some local cedar mills for a quote. I am in Miane where this is possible. What is your location?

The first call I'd make is to the architect, ask where the shingles can be obtained. If they're going to issue that strict of a specification on the product, then there's one of two things going on:
1. They already had a manufacturer and/or supplier in mind, or:
2. Somebody is a moron.
If 2. is the case, it's very likely a custom job and will be big $$$ and probably big lead time, depending on the quantity. Actually it's probably true either way.
in the northeast, i'd give Liberty Cedar a call.....
another good source would be Beacon SupplyMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
