You guys might remember a post I wrote a several weeks ago about joists shadowing on the ceiling in a p*lte house that I am working on.
Well we finally got ‘er ripped open and low and behold the insulation stopped any where up to a foot from the exterior wall. It was fg with a layer of blown fg on top, and unfortunately no one had taken the time to get it out over the ext. wall plate. I still can’t figure out why they used both given that the area had no access since it was built 18 odd years ago.
It looks like we will have to insulate the eaves from the outside, cut access and install more blown from the inside. There is evidence of past ice damming.
We also found where the drywall hangers got rid of their scrap, in the stud bays. I don’t know what p*lte builds now, but this isn’t the first time I have have seen less than acceptable building practices on their jobs. If you ever get work in a 15 year old developement of theirs you can sure drum up a lot of work.
