Hi,all…
We are looking into using reclaimed lumber, instead of knotty pine car siding, as wall covering in our front room. Has anyone one had experience with this? What are the issues to consider, besides cost.
Thanx in advance…… jt

We have used quite a bit of recycled barn timber, both in its original state as rough beams and also as flooring (could easily be used as panelling.) It's usually beautiful wood that you would have a hard time buying new. Only disadvantages I can think of is cost (fairly expensive), and more than usual defects in the wood (although that is not a disadvantage in my book, and i would imagine that if you are looking for recycled wood you feel the same way.)If you e-mail me I can put you in touch with the people we buy from, the are nice guys and have very advanced equipment, they can make almost anything you want.
*I've used old weathered barn board ..... really added some character to an otherwise drab room. Try to hide your fasteners, or use cut nails if the fasteners are exposed. Try to hide your saw cuts, too. Make sure you have more than enough to do the area you have in mind .....if you run short of material, it may be tough to match.
*Look at http://vintagelumber.com they have pretty good stuff -- you can at least get an idea of what is out there.
*Be careful about introducing insects or fungi into the home.
