Used Cabinet saw wanted

I asked this over on knots too….

Anybody got and links to sites where one could find used WW machinery for sale?

I am tired of using my little Makita TS for a shop saw.

every time I have too deal with its drawbacks I swear I’m gonna get a real TS.

But the dam thing wont die!!!

mebbe if I get a couple thousand feet of 8/4 maple and just start hogging away??

 

I would REALLY like to find a Powermatic 66 that still has some years left in it.

or a general , or a unisaw, or a jet or…..

something with some MEAT to it!

    I can get ya a 20" Tannewitz @ 10 hp. 440 v 3 phase..

    just under a ton..and a deal for 1700.00...you haul.

    best just to keep some cash in your pocket and beat the bushes locally - shipping eats a lot of $ on things like a cast iron table saw -

      What major cities are within driving distance, T?  I keep an eye in the Tacoma News Tribune classifieds (Tacoma is a small industrial city, maybe 300,000 people) and I regularly see unisaws at auction.  I'm saying like 15-20/year.

      I've seen the single phase Unisaws sell for between 500.00 and 750.00 and the three phase go for far less (I bought one for 350.00 about 10 years ago).

      Anyway, with all the small cabinet shops closing down and people mostly getting cabinets from the big boxes these days, I'm thinking you can find one at a price that will get your grin on within a year if you're patient.

    Mr. T

     I had one and you are right they are nearly imossible to kill.  What I did to kill mine was to slam cord after cord of slab wood into it..   I cut chunk after chunk of wood into fireplace size that was way thicker than that poor little thing should have handled..   Eventually after a couple of seasons of firewood was chopped it broke a  major casting.  Darn it I was able to use a coupleof giant hose clamps to keep the motor in place.  (but out of "safety" concerns I decided that it was tiemto step up to the plate.. Nice Delta,... GOD what a P.O.S.

     I eventually "solved" my problem by buying a new Grizzly table saw for the price I saw many paople sell their used table saws for.. http://www.grizzley.com  just click on the blue and see what they sell stuff for..

      Nah I don't work for them I justy have bought a lot of their eqyupment over the years and am real happy..

      I love my grizzly 1023SL Left tilt TS. As good as delta and the price is unbeatable. Most people are  catching on to the value of the old ts down in the barn. Good deals are getting harder to find. By a new import and you wont be disapointed.

      Ahhh the myth of the cheap used saw...

      Somehow somebody will sell their good used table saw for a song,  now all you need to do is luck into it.. Try reading the divorce's filed section of your newspaper and maybe some bitter exwife will sell one out of spite.  (probably not since she wants half of it)  or out of ignorance,  (maybe she didn't see the cradit card recept when she was busy looking for motel recepts,...

      Maybe she won't ask her friends what that saw is worth, or if she does maybe they won't know that places like Retool can easily get 50 - 75% of the price of new stuff.(while only  giving 10 to 20% for it) 

       You could read the obituaries too and use the same as above  for the widow.

      Finally the hobbiest  who's moving up. Going from a table saw to a contractors or cabinet saw.. He's sure to have a table saw for sale,  oops!

     

    Not saying it never happens but I'm willing to bet that there are thousands of cabinet saws that haven't been used for years, heck decades and yet nobody is looking to sell..

      Or you can look at places that sell saws without the middleman and see what they offer and what their prces are..

    When you do find a saw with a little meat in it you're likely to land a good deal. Just be sure you clean it up good.

    another resource may be eBay...

    you can utilize their search function by "x miles from area code xxxxx"

    big items such as table saw are typically pick up only, so you can find something within x miles of your zip code, you can sometimes get a little better deal on it, since you have to pick it up..

    just a thought...

    also.... craigslist.org may have a location near you....
