All,
A local tool shop has a number of used Hitachi NR83A’s. They said that their commercial accounts trade them in every couple of years (they mentioned apartment framers, so I’d assume that they have seen a lot of hard use.) The price seems right, far less than the cost of a new Bostich (which I won’t settle for.)
Would I be right to assume that these nailers still have some life left in them, and is there anything I should look out for if I decide to buy one? They mentioned that the pins break, but I think I heard that this was a common problem with Hitachis and I just need to keep spare pins in the toolbox. I’m just doing stuff for myself and for friends right now, but I’d like to have a tool that would hold up for light work if I ever need it.
Thanks.

JOhn, the guns can be rebuilt. It's just o rings that wear out. The drive pin is routine maintenance.
Any hitachi should whip a bostich.

Thanks Blue.
John,
I can't say it better than blue did.
The gun would be a fine tool to acquire.
Ditto - no one ever killed an NR83. The only
thing they lack is adjustable depth -please Mr. Hitachi
add this feature.
Did you get your wormdrive yet? Gotta have one of those, too.
Jim, as strange as this may sound I had a 77 and didn't know it. My father passed away several years back and I got his tools. The 77 was in a box with several sidewinders, and Dad had glued felt onto the shoe. I just assumed it was something specifically for cabinetry until I reopened the box last year.
After a run to get another shoe I've made it my main saw. Based on what has been said on Breaktime I may have to move to California.
