Using Advantech for radiant floor ?
Guys; I have been considering using 5/8 Advantech panels stripped to the necessary widths,7″, 10″ or what ever is necessary. Heavy aluminum foil beneath the Advantech. Then the tubing pressed between. The sub floor is 3/4×5″ spruce boards. Heat loss calc will determine the width. Has anybody done a radiant floor with this material? I would like to use wirsbo tubing but local shops will not sell to a diy. I can get the Radiantech, tubing, panels etc. If I have to I will buy the “warmboard” type panels, though I hate spend the extra money. I am open to other suggestions.

CMBB, check ou this site http://www.radiantengineering.com/ I just purchased the thermofin "U" to do a radiant ceiling in a small addition to my kitchen. With this product you can rip sleepers like you said and lay the thermofin between them. This is a very heavy extruded aluminum which will produce a lot more heat than foil (lower water temp). Also it grips the tubing much better so you don't need to use silicone. These guys will help you design your system and they can sell you everything you need. Another good web site to ask questions about radiant is heatinghelp.com (go to the wall), these guys are pros that work with this every day. One thing I found out about doing a radiant job, it is expensive. The warmboard and quicktrak systems are very, very expensive. Good luck with your project. -Ed
EDJW; Thanks! That looks like a fine product, just what i was looking for. I will be doing about 600 sq. ft. Which brand of PEX did you use?
CMBB, I haven't installed the PEX yet but the heating contractor that I am working with said he would use aluma-pex. That would be a good question for the guys on the heating help message board. http://forums.invision.net/index.cfm?CFApp=2. There is some really good info on that site, those guys are the radiant experts and seem to be very willing to help. -Ed
