Started placing drywall in my house, going for a very smooth (hopefully level 5) modern finish. I am relatively new to drywall and have read everything I could to prepare. I will be using buttboard and wanted to ask for help. I understand most often it is desirable to keep buttjoints staggered and away from center of the room. Does this also apply when using buttboard? It would seem that one continuous depressed joint may be easier to create (ie: having to remove blocking in its stud bay) and deal with. I have not been able to verify this, however. Any help from others who have used this product would be much appreciated.

Butt board is great but you do need to stagger joints. The joints can be in center of room. Generally, you only need to use butt boards for the ceiling, but if you use for walls they also should be staggered. If you are using full 8' studs, get some 1/2" drywall to infill between lower horizonal drywall and upper horizonal drywall on the walls.
Thank you for the reply. Could you please clarify the last part of your post "If you are using full 8' studs, get some 1/2" drywall to infill between lower horizonal drywall and upper horizonal drywall on the walls".
Most of my walls are 12' tall. Any other tips on use would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
For 12' walls, start wall horizonal at ceiling (after ceiling installed) and stagger vertical joints with each row. Trim last row (bottom). In my example when I install top row flush to ceiling and bottom row flush to floor there is a gap of 2- 3 inches. With 5/8 drywall for the top and bottom, if you use 1/2" drywall in the gap it gives you a nice recess to mud. For your first coat of mud, I use 20 min smooth set. It allows me too get two coats on the seams in one day.
