Using wire instead of 2×6 as a ceiling tie
Request for Scott Gibson (I think it was you?)
You once had an article about a vaulted ceiling. They used wire instead of framing to tie the walls/ceiling together.
How would I do that?
It is a 20 foot span with a 9 pitch roof. I want to knock out the central wall that holds up the joists and vault the ceiling.
Thank you! Cathy

You'd get an engineer to spec what cable you need, and how the anchorages should be detailed.

Ok - will do.
possible
There is a few articles and possibilites to do this
you search the forums for: rafters cable you get a few results like this one
another way is via a steel sandwich found here
or you could get a design to make them into scissor trusses
but anyway you do it, I agree with the other comment to consult an engineer.

Thank you! Those were both great.
I love the steel sandwich.
I find the bolts get caught in my teeth, and it's really difficult to floss them out.
The coarse thead ones are crunchy!
