I am extending my front porch. The gable sits at 90deg to the main roof. Instead of trying to match the ridge in a straight line and not have it look like an extension I was thinking of ripping it all off and putting in new. I have quite a few Doug fir 2×12’s that I want to rip in half and turn into a carsiding roof deck. I also want to keep the ceiling open obviously. The roofing will be steel. Not sure how to detail the valleys with the different materials (roof is asphalt shingles). And what to do to close in the ceiling at the house wall line or leave it open.
Thanks for any input/guidance

a picture of what you have would be a big help.
Valley Pan
Use a valley pan, just like you would if both roofs were metal.
