Looking for site supervisor/project manager,or at the very least, interesting, challenging finish carpentry or staircase work.
I am able and skilled in timberwork, logwork, framing and finishing, but trying to stay away from dull, repetitive framing.
TIA for any responses,Phil.

Busy here in Van, Calgary and Edmonton too, apparently that's where alll our carp.s went....I'm trying to find quality employment with reasonable forward thinking employers. So........I'm taking my time to find a good place to hang my hat.If it is to be.... 'twil be done by me.
Fort Mac maybe? Lots of building and lots of money there.
well being from NYC I wouldnt know how costruction is in Canada but on my way back from skiing a few weeks ago I stopped in a HD in Canada to buy some Ditra and the store was virtually empty of customers at 9AM on a Friday. That's 'cause we Montrealers work on Friday's.
We don't have skads of US bucks to go skiing during the week. (Jelouse emotion)

The just held public meetings for a new development on a vacant lot just south of me: supposed to be mixed housing for 28,000 people and some light commercial for 17,000 jobs - I guess that's pretty typical around here these days..

Since all the westerners have added there input it's now time for a point of view from Ontario. Toronto is booming as usual but I abandoned the city for Collingwood. No pay cuts or anything and loads of work. And on the point of going ....who needs to take a holiday to go skiing. Hell we are still skiing here and enjoying it. I can come home from work and be on the ski slopes in 10 mins. Its the best of all worlds.
Ski "slope" in ontario?!?!?! Surely you jest......come to Whistler, one mile of slope and more runs than you can see.....always sunny, because most of the runs are ABOVE the clouds........cheers,Phil on the Wet coast. If it is to be.... 'twil be done by me.
Yes I know how nice it is in Whistler. I have done work out west and thats where i discovered how y'all enjoy life. We justr seem to work away here but now I found Collingwood and everything has changed
Collingwood looks pretty cool. We are looking around Canada to relocate. We aren't bad neighbors once you get past our redneck ways. Big dogs, junk cars, scrap wood.
Collingwood is a great place and in a building boom since Blue Mountain resort was taken over by Intrawest (same company as whistler) and in essence creating a mini whistler village. Land prices are skyrocketing, only problem if youre looking to buy.
What are you looking for?

I'm just a city slicker turned hillbilly.
I love whistler but will settle for Collingwood.
Great small town atmosphere and once you send the city folk back on Sundays we get our town returned to normal.
I'm staying put here doing renos.
I've done commercial retail fitups all across North America including Whistler and wouldn't trade Collingwood for it anymore
Sounds groovy. We have lived here in NW North Carolina for 30 years and its really hard to beat. A mature high end building industry pays good and no bugs in the summer. But I have hiked everything and the skiing is usually marginal. We're itching. Is there more going on than the ski slope condo thing?
Collingwood is a beautiful small town. Its a major tourist area year round. There is alot to do all year round. Just as you have the ocean we have Georgian bay. We also tons of golf in the summer. Skiing in the winter as well as ice fishing and snowmobiling. Basically you can do whatever you want to do. Its a great area. Should come and check it out.
North Carolina is nice too though. I spent one winter working in Norfolk VA and was able to tour around on the weekends.
I now through my SO, have in-laws in Penetang, and hope to get out this Xmas to see your area, they used to have a place on Manitoulin.
Never got to see more of that area when travelling through racing at Montreal,Shannonvile, Mosport, Trois-Rivieres etc.. Hoping to rectify and see more of the country. Cheers,Phil. If it is to be.... 'twil be done by me.
I used to hate going through that arch at Trois Rivieres - I would guess you're not old enough for Le Circuit (Mont Tromblant) let alone Harewood or Greenacres. .

Ah monsieur, 'ow incorrect you can be....While I never drove Le circuit Mont Tremblant, our little teams from Vancouver with moi on the crew have had a number of victoires over the years there;Rothman's Porsche Series,Porsche Cup, Honda Michelin Series,Player's Challenge Series, I loved the course, very much like our Westwood (RIP)...If it is to be.... 'twil be done by me.
I did Westwood and Gimley (sp ?) a couple of time between 1965 and 1970+ - Westwood was really nice in its early days - first grounds-up sports car track in Canada as I recall (there were lots of earlier airport tracks, of course)..

The St. Jovite track, if it's even still there, is a full-day drive from here, a little far to go for a drink..

well.so ski as well.takes us nine hours to get there from NYC. I'll give you the site of the place we stay. Its fantastic and not terribly expensive...well not converted into US dollars anyway.

I couldn't go to the last race weekend at Westwood when they closed it to allow resi-development-sacrilege-blasphemy- crime. I had spent too much enjoyable time there over 10 years to see it go away,I wanted to remember it as it was...
It was like the feeling I used to get the morning after a race weekend ANYWHERE, when the cars/trucks/teams and people are gone.....ghost town, quiet, serene, empty,BORING!
Cheers,Phil. If it is to be.... 'twil be done by me.
" trying to stay away from dull, repetitive framing."
heheehe, can't resist this....do like all the other framers around do to keep it from being dull and repetitive....pot or crack (advance to crack when the all-day pot high just becomes a dull headache). Look at the plans once, then throw them away. Don't make all rooms square, vary the angles and wall lengths. Throw in some obvious code violations, i.e. top plates ending over same joist, so the site super will be stuck over the weekend fixing it so the inspector can come back Monday. On at least one wall, mismark all the stud locations so the studs are 1.5" out of plumb, then see if it is overlooked til the rockers get started.
Geez, guess whut hoppened to me this week.
