I am sure that this question has been asked hundreds of times, but where should the vapor barrier be installed when finishing a basement in the Midwest. The rule of thumb appears to be to install in on the warm side of the wall. The problem is that the warm side of the wall switches with the seasons. I have read a lot on this subject and have heard convincing advice for both sheetrock side and poured wall side. Any advice would be appreciated.

Under the concrete slab is my first choice. If unsure, plan to use a concrete sealer.
After that, you are on the right track for the walls. Warm side. But also the damp side. Consider where your moisture is coming from at the time of year when it will do the most condensing. For most folks that is on the inside.
