Hi,
I’m looking for some guidance on insulating the upstairs of my old house (180 yrs). I have soild brick masonary walls, joists in pockets, and plaster directly on the brick. In the 80’s the exterior was stucco’d with a portland cement/metal lath stucco (good workmanship/still looks good).
I am studding out (2×4) the exterior walls to make make room for some FG kraft faced batt insulation and then blueboard with veneer plaster. I’m not going to use a poly vapor barrier as I believe the low perm stucco on the exterior means the walls will have to be able to dry inwards during some seasons.
BTW, The downstairs is just furring with drywall, no insulation
The whole vapor barrier/no vapor barrier things confuses the heck out me

Greetings browndog,
This post to your question will bump the thread through the 'recent discussion' listing again.
Perhaps it will catch someones eye that can help you with advice.
Cheers
Well, seeing there has been no advice presented here for your particular situation it looks like it's homework time.
If you scroll down in the lower left corner of your screen there is a search function that will take you to previous threads dealing with whatever you type in the search bar.
If you type in 'vapor barrier', or other keywords of the subject matter you'll get a good supply of data from those old threads.
There's a lot there so be careful you don't choke on it.
Good luck.
Cheers
