Hello all,
We are building a house and the main roof system is trusses. Over the master suite area we have a hip roof and we would like to have a vaulted ceiling within the master. Does anyone have tips on how to achieve this? Are we better off stick building the roof for this portion of the house?

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

Easy answer is talk to the truss company.
Dealing with same issue - current hip roof design with plan to convert to cathedral in master bedroom and master bath.
My question is how many of the ceiling rafters are needed to keep in place to prevent far wall bow? Currently planning to keep every third one in place and dress them up to look like collar tie beams. All existing 2x4 rafters (common & hip) at 16" centres in vaulted area to be kept in place but beef up all rafters to 2x10s (overkill but need for insulation depth)... add ridge beam supported on main wall which is supported all to basement. Remove most ceiling rafters and knee wall in vaulted area.
