Any idea why manufacturers classify Advantech as unsuitable underlay for VCT? Armstrong seems to lump it in with OSB with no explanation, regardless of the fact there is so much glue in the stuff that you could build a ship with it. Is it the texture ghosting that they are worried about?

lable bleed through probably.
Perhaps the tolerances in sheet thickness.
And like my father, because they said so.
VCT
Talked to Armstrong rep just now and she says that proper adhesion is the issue. I said then "how about a primer" and she almost blew a gasket. "you vill do as I say!" was the response I was expecting next.
I have 3/4" advantech over 3/4 x 3 1/4" old fir T&G underneath. I'm waiting for the results of my bonding test. $1200 in 1/4" UL is at stake.
VCT over Advantec
I have noticed that adavntec seems to have a coating that repels water and would likewise repel adhesion. Would it be crazy to run a drum style floor sander over the adavntec prior to the VCT install. This would key the surface, remove any sealer on the top of the advantec and smooth out any lumps and humps. This would be cheaper and quicker than underlayment.....keep in mind that any imperfections in the advantec will telegraph through the vct over time, fill you screw heads etc.
