Has any one got experience of the ‘Velux solar hot water system’, I am about to start a complete refurbishment of our new family home, works are going to consist of attic conversion into a en suit bathroom and master bedroom, double story side extension and full width rear extension.
As we are planing to stay in this house for the next 15 years, I want to put the tech in now that should save money in the long term, this includes solar heating if possible.
I am based in the UK and velux sell the system as kit for self installation, I know in the US that they provide a fitting service.
Almost forgot, the house faces south so should get plenty of sun light.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Isn't "based in the UK" and
Isn't "based in the UK" and "plenty of sun light" mutually exclusive?! :)
One thing you might consider is installing the plumbing now and worry about the system later. That way you don't have to finalize your decisions until you actually install the system. In my new house, I stubbed plumbing up through the roof for future solar domestic hot water system. I also installed blocking in the roof framing to anchor solar panels to.

Be careful about planting trees. They'll get in the way.
They'll get in the way.
Not exactly true.
We have lived 22 yrs utilizing passive solar to add to our comfort. Trees that lose leaves are actually a benefit. In the summer they shade, in the winter they allow the sun to pass, heating the bldg envelope.
Evergreens on the other hand wouldn't.
Nothing wrong with living in the woods and capturing the sun for heating. Year round electrical use and / or HW, not necessarily so.
Even when they've lost their leaves they can get in the way if you've had a few too many beers.
