I have recently ventured into working with Venetian plaster as an alternative to the usual drywall texturing and taping.  I ordered a Marshalltown 16062 8-3/4 x 3-3/4 inch Venetian Plastering trowel from Amazon and the surface of the stainless steel trowel is not completey smooth – there are rough sections at the edge and in the middle of the trowel.  I had expected that the trowel would be almost mirror like.  Are there different types of trowels for Venetian plaster and are some smooth and some textured?
