I am building a porch roof and have a question on designing a roof vent. I checked the archives and saw some discussion on not having to vent a roof, but for heat dissapation I am choosing to do this. I do not want to use the box roof vents and like the idea of a continous ridge vent. I came up with a design where I would stop the roof sheeting a few inches from the house. I would then build up an overhang that would allow the ridge vent fabric to be contained. I would also use a dripedge along this small ledge. See the picture below.
Does this sound OK? I have not seen this design before and I don’t want to recreate any mistakes…
Thanks for looking,
Michael

Yeah, that will work fine. We use a similar detail, but the wall apron flashing goes over the idge vent. You can cut the ridge vent material in half and reduce the 10 1/4" reveal.
OOPS, I did it again.............................
I don't see any soffitt vent shown in your diagram.
That top vent will only exhaust properly if it has an intake vent as well.
The top looks good.
I plan to use a fully vented soffitt. After living in an older house with very poor venting / insulation and suffering from multiple problems with ice jams, I now incorporate venting in to all my structures.
Thanks for you responses!
