I had a new high efficiency gas furnace installed in my basement. Previously the old gas furnace and the water heater vented directly into a dedicated chimney. I asked several HVAC installers whether it was necessary to reline the chimney since the hot water heater was only venting into the old chimney. I was told that the chimney was in good condition and was lined with tile. Besides being concerned with carbon monoxide. I also want to prolong the life of the chimney.
