Does anyone have a VERY SIMPLE graphics / drafting program that they can recommend? I do not want any 3D capabilities. I do not want a library of fixtures. I do not want textures, trees, shrubs, a camera that moves around.
I have tried the search – no luck
I tried Google for shareware – no luck
I would just like to make simple sketches
A guy I work w/ has a program called ” Architecht ver 1.7″, but we can’t figure out who put it out. It has been on his computer for years and he has no discs or anything.
It is very easy to use – just shapes and lines with an angle feature and a dimension feature.
Thanks

AutoSketch by AutoCad. Current version is 9, I think. Amazon sells it for about $125. Straight 2d, has a few bell & whistles but not many.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.

I downloaded this free, learned my way around, drew my house plans - printed them to pdf (using adobe distiller) I emailed them to a print shop, and had 17x22 plans ready for permits.
As a bonus, you can import other cad drawings, files are compatible.
I downloaded the product since 3D home architect was driving me nuts (roofs!) but I was able to export floorplans to cad format, then tweak in Cad Standard. I used cad for elevations, site plan, etc.
I have no other CAD experience, but I was pleased with the lite product.
I just looked at the website - $25 gets you the PRO version - not too shabby.

Brian, thanks for that link,I've downloaded it and will give it a whirl later on.
Jhole, why don't you just copy that file off his computer? Feeling guilty? Send me the check.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!
Warning! Be cautious when taking any framing advice from me. There are some in here who think I'm a hackmeister...they might be right! Of course, they might be wrong too!
Look what I just got in my email

paul.. why do you suppose there are so many versions of TruboCad offered on that site..
you've used TC , right.. ?
i never have... i just muddle along with my ChiefMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
probably because there are so many versions of turbo out there. I have v4 and V7pro. One of them came with a free Floorplan program, making me think that that consumer program works on that particular Tcad engine. I've never used it.I have bought a few programs from that site. For the most part, what you get is a CD of an earlier version of the program in question, outdated for those who want to keep up with the best, but still functional for the average consumer. Plus, we all know that there are certain versions of certain programs that are favored as being better than curtrent ones. I believe I heard a few say that Bruderbund's 3Dhome archy is best in V4Once a client loads the CD ( there is no cardboard box or book included with any of these) and they register, they are immediately informed that there is a newer version available with all sorts of toys, so the marketing helps the originating developer which is probably why they make the program copying available to the marketer practically for free. You load it, register it and get on somebodies mailing list...

"I believe I heard a few say that Bruderbund's 3Dhome archy is best in V4"From what I have heard it is not so much the the later versions wheren't as good. It is that later versions where completely different and incompatabile with stuff done with the older one.It was based on Chief Archtect. The HO version of CA is now sold under the BH&G label. Version run from $50 to 500.http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0006AAOLE/qid=1112498809/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/103-7108800-5767822?v=glance&s=softwareGreat way to experiment with CA or for someone that is working with a designer that uses CA.
Ed, I already have auto sketch, thanks
Brian, I down loaded that, will play w/ it later. Definately moving the right direction as far as simpler goes.
Blue, he's got a Mac and I'm pc.
Piffin, thanks for link
Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology for what I'm looking for. I am not looking to use this for design purposes(floor plans, prints, etc) I would just like to set simple sketckes of changes into my proposals - (new door location in a room e.g.) The program my friend has is about 3 times as powerful as the drawing toolbar in "MS WORD", very simple.
Thanks guys
DeltaCAD

I've used for everything from entire plot layouts to header design and tile layouts.
~$25 when I bought it 5 years ago; might have had price increase.

Thanks TJ that looks pretty close to what I'm looking for. - a pad of paper and a pencil on a computer.

JHole,
I have been using MS Visio for the past year to do a variety of electrical and mechanical designs for customers that need to see a 'picture' along with some detail. It is quite simple and comes with some templates for general use. It is not free, but it is part of the Microsoft Office, for what it's worth.
Visio certainly cannot take the place of an AutoCAD, but I think it does an excellent job for what you are describing, and is pretty easy to learn how to use quickly.
If you would like some samples of a couple of drawings I have done with Visio, drop me a line and an email address.

Why don't you post a couple of those pics here ?

All right. Here is an Adobe rendering of a visio drawing of a floorplan for my house.
hmmm... well, I tried. The system won't let me upload it. It is only 650K so it is less than the max size. Starts to upload and then flips to a dialogue that says the web site address cannot be found - of course, that web site address is one selected by this forum, and not by me. So, hopefully the web master will see this message and fix that problem for us.
