I’m looking for input on PEX systems and the pros – cons of each manufacturers proprietary crimping systems. I have been very happy with the Wirsbo compression fittings on the hydronics side of things but am seriously considering the Viega lineup for the domestic supply lines.
What are the advantages of the “press” vs. “crimp” fittings that Viega carries and which system is preffered in comparison to the Wirsbo expander type system?
I am doing this work for myself and some other friends/family projects on down the road so I don’t mind the initial purchase price of the tool – I just want some feedback as to which system I might be happiest with. My supplier carries both and really doesn’t have a clear cut endorsement of either product line. Thanks for your time.

I started out using Wirsbo/Uponor , this last house I plummed the home owner wanted the crimp ring system.
The Wirsbo is just easier to use.
I only ever used the Viega (Well Vanguard) crimp system and never had a problem.
I missed a few and had to re-do them (crimped in a tight spot and crimped the crimp off of the fitting)
I like the system but cant speak to the others.
I have the ratcheting crimp tool described here:

Which I believe is wirsbo--I forget.
It does any size of pipe--with the respective sized stainless crimp.
I am not a licensed plumber and only use it for small remodeling work and working on my own stuff.
I don't know why anyone would buy several tools, for each size pipe when this thing works so well. Different sized pipe, fittings and crimp rings. Same 100$ tool.
