Newer pressure treatments don't offer the same rot and decay resistance. Follow these simple strategies to give outdoor lumber its best chance of survival.

If you don't have any luck through the classifieds, Carpenters Machinery in York, PA could be worth a look. They keep their inventory online, http://www.c-machinery.com

Their stock turns over pretty quickly. Send 'em what you're looking for & they may be able to track it down for you.

Hi Andy,
Have you used one of these before? How well does it work? It sounds like a great way to replicate the old molding I come across on the Victorians here in Rochester. I want to get a W&H too. I have used a borrowed one to match some crown molding but the knives cost me $200 to grind.

I dont know how well they work because I've never used one but for the money it seems worth while. I think Veil has a video they will send you. Going to check into that at least
Be well

I know how they work.......
Oh yeah, I guess you want to know alittle more than that. The machine works GREAT!! It is not the best for long runs of moldings, but is cheaper/faster than having someone run it. It will payfor it's self in about 4-3 profiles if you don't pay yourself for the time you grind those first few sets of knives. It takes a few tries to get a good feel for the machine, but after that , no problem. I have one of those "Weaver " loose knive sets with all the different profiles that come in a kit. I take the profiles that I don't like from the set and use those for some of my custom grinds. I also have a W.H. and have done alittle grindin for that too. I also have a 2" corragated shper body and have ground knives for that also. I have charged $250-$350 for small panel molding runs that take less than 4 hrs to make the template, grind the knives, and run the molding. I have had no luck in finding replacement grinder wheels, so I buy them from Viel. I know that they are out there somewhere, but I haven't taken the time to look.
This is money well spent if you are able/competent for this kind accuracy. (No insult intended). Hope this info helps.
And.... no, I will not sell my Williams/Hussey or the Viel. But, I am looking for a Williams/Hessey radius/ellipse jig ;) Know of any one who has one for sale?
migrane,
I was just looking at an old (2/03) thread when I was looking for a Viel copy grinder and just saw your post to me..sorry I never responded. Well, I'm still looking...lol.
In answer to the radius jig if you haven't already bought one...someone here a cpl of years ago wrote and said he made one and it was super easy but he never posted the scetch.
He said after you see one up close one would be able to simply figure out how to make one with some simple bearings and other parts.
BE well
