Any experiences with the Viessmann Vitola-biferral oil fired boiler?
It seems to be ideal for low temp radiant heat.
Comments?
Thanks much,
Bruce

Upgrading the footings and columns that support a girder beam is an opportunity to level out the floor above.

"Viessmann" name itself speaks volumes in the radiant world.
HeatingHelp.com's The Wall forum is full of Viessmann fans.
It's been a great resource for me as a hands-on homeowner finetuning two zones of hotwater baseboards that's heated by a Burnham gas boiler.
Any installer that handles Viessmann will more then likely be a straight shooter who will feed you zero B.S.
There is also the possibility they may suggest an alternative that is better suited to your situation. (= less expensive.)
I wish I could indulge in a Viessmann oil burner.
We have a second home with a very old American Standard boiler with an updated Beckett burner. Instead of converting to natural gas, we may replace it with a modern oil burner.
Sorry I haven't specifically answered you question.

If your using oil the Vitola 200 is a great choice for radiant my second choice would be the Vitorond 200. If you can go with Gas the Vitodens 200 is the latest and greatest offering from Viessmann.
To find out more about These products you can go to Viessmanns website at http://www.viessmann.com
The very best brand.
Nothing more to say.
Drooling over the new Vitodens to come out this month....
I put one in my own house. Not only is it a great unit, but half-a-plumber that I am, I was able to install the beast myself. Andy Engel, The Accidental Forum moderator
Andy -
Did you have them simply drop off the boiler ?
Trying to figure out how you made the arrangements and be able to install the boiler yourself without running into resistance from either the manufacturer or dealer/installer.
As an avid hydronics fan and student of boiler piping arrangements, I've always wanted to tackle a boiler swap (which would be inspected by the town and would be fully permitted.) and an opportunity to upgrade an old boil burner has come up.
Thanks for any insight,
Alan
I just bought it through a local plumbing supplier. They were more than happy to take thousands of dollars from me <G>. For that, they were quite helpful. Honestly, it was probably the most complex building task I've ever undertaken, and I did have my service company come out to check the draft and so on. Andy Engel, The Accidental Forum moderator
Hi Andy: Can I ask how much more these boilers are than the typical? Are we talking twice as much? Thrice?
I know a 100K Crown cast sectional boiler is about $1.5K.
I'd be interested in doing a similar thing...installing myself with a complete inspection afterwards. More of a personal satisifaction and education thing...I have built everything else so far, just seems odd to me to have any kind of a black box...
Thanks much,
Bruce
It's been three years, so the memory is a bit fuzzy. Also, I bought a package that included the PEX and aluminum plates for the radiant floors. I remember it costing about $600 more than the Weil-McClean.Andy Engel, The Accidental Forum moderator
Make sure you hire someone to test the boiler emmissions as well as the firing, etc. And also have a competant person check your piping and wiring before you turn the power on.
Thanks, Andy -
RE - "and I did have my service company come out to check the draft and so on."
What is a service company ?
Separate from the dealer who sold you the boiler ?
I'm dreamin' of an orange box...
(Or are they silver these days ?)
Alan
My service company is the outfit that I buy oil from and who services my boiler annually (Although they say they could do this one bi-annually). Still orange.Andy Engel, The Accidental Forum moderator
You are wrong there buddy... they ain't orange anymore. Hi-ho Silver!
Actually the story of the color change is quite interesting. Ever hear it?
I did notice the color change and would love to hear the story behind it.
The orange color scheme was unmistakable.
(I've been collecting pictures of boiler installations posted at The Wall and Breaktime.).
Thanks !
Alan
Heres a pic of the little silver devils. Wethead tell us your version of the colour change curious as to if it is the same version we have heard up here.Currently in the design phase of a system using a Vitodens right now.

No, Wet, I never heard that story. Didn't they want to be associated with Home Depot? <G>Andy Engel, The Accidental Forum moderator
ISH is "THE" place to be with all your new products and it is a source of great pride to upstage the competition there.
Viessman came in and set up all their normal orange stuff. Then in the middle of the night before the opener they came in and changed everything to the new color. (They did this because they were being copied over there and losing branding)
The competition nearly peed their pants the next morning.
Oops the previous pic. doesn't show the Viessmann name
