Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

Was Rube Goldberg visiting your jobsite?
I don't even think Rube would want credit for this one !!
Walter,
I love it! Send it to OSHA and MOSHA. (anonymously)
Chuck,
I'm working alone out here so they have no authority over this job.

>>"The addition was in the way of other solutions -- so necessity is the mother of inventions."Or, if it was me, necessity would be the mother of rented equipment.
Politics is the antithesis of problem solving.
ever try to rent and haul equipment to an island?Doable, but really ads up in cost and time.

The way the lot and house are configured , there is no way to get a manlift there.
I've got pipe , aluma pole , and lots of ladders , but no place to set them for access.
It will allow me to line these old wooden gutters.
All I can say Walt, is better you than me>G<
I have done some weird staging in my life but that should recieve an AWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks, It'll enable me to get this small job completed and leave on the 4:30 boat on Tues.
With aluma-pole and a 24' plank you could straddle that ell couldn't you?
a.
If I could have I would have. The addition comes out further than the main house.
No way to attach a brace or stand a ladder back there.
wind blew your hat off eh?

No wind yet over here , but the rain started mid afternoon.
Tomorrow doesn't sound like a roofing day.
There was a storm last night roll through that laid a tree down on power line . I had a limb in my road to clear going out. But it's been dead calm still warm, damp, and heavy all day

Walt, you need to checkout powerpole just seen there set up for the first time at the remodeling show in Baltimore and i'm really considering them they also have three legged type saw horses for staging on the roof where all three legs adjust independently could be real helpful in a situation like yours.
Mike,
I'm out on an Island 12 miles from land then 1.5 hours to my home.
I've got a lot of rigging over here , but the way the buildings are situated I can't get anything else near enough to be helpful.
A mason's chimney bracket scaffold set on the addition roof with pipe staging on it would be the way I'd do it at home , but I don't have a set on this Island.
I'm almost done with this gutter lining job -- that staging worked like a charm , just a little odd looking to the faint at heart.
Walter
Looks like something is not quite right with your staging. Can't put my finger on it though.
The only thing funnier than those photos would be a video of you building that contraption, step by step.
Reminds me of something I saw in a old Harold Lloyd movie.
That would be comical to see.
Thought you would get a lot of compliments on that one....
Thanks again and see you soon
Dan B
Dan,
Had a great time except for missing the hurricane !
I never sent the link for your gutter job I don't think.
Hope Ann's project goes smoothly.
See you soon.

"Reminds me of something I saw in a old Harold Lloyd movie."Or maybe The Red Green Show"?

My homemade staging is down. After lunch I'll take down the ladders, deck , jacks -- grab some lobsters and head for home on the boat.

Duane,
Just took care of it.
One more ladder to take down. Two jobs to measure,a couple estimates to produce -- then onto the Ferry at 4:30.
Walter
That is so bad...I prefer to just hold the ladder.
